From this unit, I learned modal auxiliary verbs and the passive voice. For example, the modal verb “may” is used when we ask for a request in a polite way, asking for a formal permission and is uncertain when expressing something. For the passive voice, the object of an active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb and the focus in a sentence might be changed from active to passive voice. When something is not known, not important or we don’t want to say, the passive is most frequently used. Clauses can be divided into three categories: independent clause, dependent clause and relative clause. A relative clause is introduced by a relative pronoun, such as who, which and that.
