From this unit, I learned modal auxiliary verbs and the passive voice. For example, the modal verb â€œmayâ€ is used when we ask for a request in a polite way, asking for a formal permission and is uncertain when expressing something. For the passive voice, the object of an active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb and the focus in a sentence might be changed from active to passive voice. When something is not known, not important or we donâ€™t want to say, the passive is most frequently used. Clauses can be divided into three categories: independent clause, dependent clause and relative clause. A relative clause is introduced by a relative pronoun, such as who, which and that.
