This unit describes the most common methods to evaluate a student's language level: tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. There are several kinds of tests: placement and diagnostic tests, provided to establish the language level of a student and therefore his/her following arrangement into the correct class; progress tests, useful to monitor the progress of the students, practice tests as preparation for external examinations, such as TOEFL or those from the Cambridge Assessment. A lot of schools, for example in my country, Italy, lack of these kinds of approach and I think that the introduction of such methods would be a good innovation.
