This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit explained the different ways in which students can be evaluated for their language ability, and the uses for certain kinds of exams. The most helpful portion of this unit, for me, was the example placement test as it gave me more of an idea of how I would have to create my own placement exam if need be. Written tests like that are useful in placement, but verbal examinations are also very important too, though I can understand how it might be difficult or time-consuming to undertake a verbal examination that gives an accurate skill level of each student. Equally as interesting to me was the explanation of each of the international external exams for English-language certification. I knew that most English-speaking countries required some sort of language certification in order to study or work there, but I did not realize there were so many, and very specific ones for Britain as well.
