This unit discusses the evaluation of students and the variety of tests used. A student?s language level can be assessed by using tutorials, questionnaires or tests. Placement tests, diagnostic tests, progress tests and practice tests are what can be used in order to gauge students? knowledge of the language. Outside of a language school, there are external exams used to grant people employment or entry into a university. From this unit, I learned just how important the diagnostic and placement tests are. They can be used to find out the correct pacing of the lessons as well as how much English they know prior to enrolling. I think progress testing is still viable, but might hinder the student?s learning. He or she might become to invested in trying to memorizing terms and phrases rather than understanding it.
