In this lesson I learned that there are many different factors that contribute to a student being able to learn new vocabulary. For example; the spelling, pronunciation, and similarity to English words already known. When selecting vocabulary and grammar to teach it is important to take into account the word/rules relevancy to the student and well as its frequency and coverage. It is important that the meaning, purpose, use and pronunciation of the word (or rule) is conveyed clearly. During the Engage phase of teaching vocabulary, gap filling is a very useful exercise that can be used. I also learned that the language functions areas include; inviting, suggesting, agreeing, refusing, and suggesting.
