Just to finish off this particular section on lesson planning, we're going to go through a couple of procedures that should take place during the study phase periods, particularly when we're doing the activities. The D part of this stands for a demonstration of the activity. Now, it's very important that you don't try to explain how the activity is going to work but rather you actually demonstrate the process. An example of the demonstration of the process of the activity could be something as simple as taking the first question and using it and writing it on the board. This will...  [Read more]

These are diversions and rarely related to the language we will be studying that day. I don't know if that would be considered appropriate by international TEFL standards or not, but it helps to break the ice with shy Chinese students in large classes who are often reluctant to speak out on their own for even the simplest language. Varying factors come into play when learning how to manage a classroom but there are still some details that should remain consistent. A teacher's attitude should be positive and knowing how to balance teacher talk time versus student talk time are a couple examples of concepts that are consistent when it comes to teaching. On the other hand, details such as how many students and the personality of the students are factors that differ...  [Read more]

In order to teach listening and reading skills effectively, the students' level of English must be carefully considered. New vocabulary must be introduced before the students listen or read new material, but it is also important that only the most essential vocabulary is introduced, since in every day life, they should be able to meet a couple unfamiliar words now and then and still be able to understand the general idea....  [Read more]

The two videos were in great contrast. The teacher clearly showed a terrible attitude in the first one, while in the second one, he shows a lot more optimism and involves himself enough to catch the students attention, by miming a lot for example. Though, there are a few facts said in the videos that can be contradicted for cheetahs can jump up to 2 m, elephant can crawl, and ostriches can swim.Classroom management and the...  [Read more]

I strongly believe in being prepared for class and writing out not only daily but weekly lesson plans. I like to look at the week as the perfect t time to pick a concept and theme to learn and spend the rest of the week focused on that. I think a week is just the right amount of time for students to focus on a concept. It gives them time to really dive into it, and work on it, and they also know that next week there will be something new to work on. of course,...  [Read more]

It was good to see some real recommendations of a couple of industry standard course books and some example supplemental materials. We don''t know when the speech is being reported. Moreover, in American speech anyway, it is always OK to use 'tomorrow' even if it happened long in the past. I don't think I would ever say, 'She asked him if he was working the following day,' as there would always be a context in which she was asking him the day before, and that is frozen in time.
