This unit covered teaching productive skills, speaking and writing. Both of these skill sets are important for students to fully grasp to be able to communicate in English. I learned that emphasis on accuracy is more important when learning new skills or when introducing a topic, where emphasis on fluency is more important when completing more creative activities. This gives a strong basis of understanding in new language yet allow room for experimentation and creativity for studentsI learned quite simply that the lesson must be structured, but not prohibitively so. A good lesson plan helps with this. Whether it is completely formal, or some notes jotted down, the plan gives the teacher, especially a new one a strong foundation to conduct the lesson. That way, the teacher can fully prepare, and instill confidence in his/her students. With that in mind, the teacher must also strive to not be too rigid. He/she must adapt the lesson based on changing circumstances.
