Some general rules to remember, wherever you work: find out as much as you can about the country or region before you go; at the beginning be conservative in your manners, speech, and actions, until you'll be confident; use of formal greetings until you'll find appropriate alternative ones; never express political or social opinion unless you're sure it's going to be understood; don't make comments about absent people; leave sarcasm with your students (to prevent misunderstanding)...
Tests are valuable, may it be conducted formally or informally, to determine the skill level of the students, to see a visual record of each students' progress throughout the course, and to determine their skill set (strengths and weaknesses)...

One example that I found confusing at first was the distinctions between Future Simple and ?Be going to? predictions; I repeat sentences for each tense a couple times before I understood the meaning: FSimple predicts things with ?no present ?evidence, while ?Be going to? predicts things with ?present? evidence...
